Amendments to the Law On Defence of Consumers’ Rights approved

On 19 April 2012, the Council of the Republic approved amendments to the Law On Defence of Consumers’ Rights – says the BELTA reporter. 

According to the document, when applying, a consumer will not have to pay to the non-governmental organization which defends his/her interests. A seller (manufacturer) will have to satisfy the NGO’s complaint on reimbursement of costs within 14 days. So, the NGO will receive a reimbursement from a guilty party but not from consumers.
Moreover, the document clarifies a mechanism of cost reimbursement to NGOs, and also the norms related to formal evaluation of employees’ of such NGO.
According to the Deputy Minister of Commerce Irina Narkevich, the Ministry believes that after adoption of the law only the most serious suits will be filed; other disputes will be resolved extrajudicially.
