Belarus: EU helps Čavusy to save water and energy resources

A new dispatch centre opened in Čavusy as a part of the local housing and communal services under the innovative project, ‘system of automation for vision of energy and water in the city of Čavusy: save water’, implemented with financial support from the European Union. The project involves the city's housing and communal services establishing a smart system for water supply, heat and electricity monitoring and management in the town. As a result, water and heat are saved both in the residential sector and in production, reducing their losses during transportation and greenhouse gas emissions while also reducing energy costs.

The project is implemented as part of the EU-supported Covenant of Mayors – Demonstration Projects (CoM-DeP). It also involves the introduction of dispatching control of wells, refurbishment of the central sewerage collector and implementation of sewerage bio-treatment technology, as well as the introduction of an automated commercial energy consumption accounting system.

The Covenant of Mayors – Demonstration Projects programme supports 22 signatories of the Covenant of Mayors with the implementation of projects included in their Sustainable Energy Action Plans. The support team of the CoM-DeP provides grants to 19 selected projects, as well as technical, procedural and communication assistance.
