Green Economy Info Cycle Concludes in Mahilioŭ Region

On July 11, the sixth info day of the cycle "Promoting Green Economy in the Republic of Belarus: Principles, Mechanisms, Prospects" in Mahilioŭ Region. The event was attended by more than 50 managers of large companies, representatives of executive authorities and academic community, miscellaneous non-governmental organizations, ecology students and journalists. The event organizers are the Delegation of the European Union to Belarus with participation of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, and the Mahilioŭ Region Executive Committee.

The event is aimed at raising public awareness about the green economy principles, present practical outcomes of various projects in that sphere and outline opportunities that could give rise to implementation of green projects, inter alia, in Mahilioŭ Region.

In his presentation, Mr. Lyubomir Klepach (Centre for Environmental Solutions) outlined the problems and prospects of organic farming development in Belarus. Within his projects Mr. Piotr Sachek, Thematic Coordinator of the "Supporting the Transition to a Green Economy in the Republic of Belarus" Project, focused on specific initiatives that have successfully implemented green ideas, and Ms. Yelena Pakhomenko, Regional Coordinator of the "Support to Local Development in the Republic of Belarus" Project made a presentation of the key outputs of local initiatives. The issues of eco-tourism, energy saving and energy efficiency, environmental public education were also discussed at the event.

During the second half of the info day, the participants visited sites of the "System of Automation for Vision of Energy and WATER: SAVE WATER" Project and the environmental arable farming initiative under the "Support to Local Development in the Republic of Belarus" Projects in Asinaŭka Agro-Town. All these projects are implemented with financial support from the European Union.

The first info day "Promoting Green Economy in the Republic of Belarus: Principles, Mechanisms, Prospects" was held in Briest on April 19, 2017. The events were then held in the cities of Viciebsk and Homieĺ, and in Hrodna and Minsk regions. The info cycle brought together over 300 participants from more than 40 raions of the country's six regions.
