50(1332) 08.04.03 On 10-17 April a humanitarian mission of french business schools will start in Belarus. A column, consisting of 32 autos will move, according to the route: Pinsk-Mozyr-Gomel-Bobruisk-Mogilyev-Minsk-Baranovichi. Humanitarian support will be delivered to children’s homes, hospitals and other establishments. The mission is organized by French Embassy and International Charitable Foundation “Help to Orphans”.

A saving center

50(1332) 08.04.03 The first in Belarus hiring center of the care taking means for disabled children will be opened in Minsk in autumn. One can find here wheel chairs, developing games, crutches, play pans, orthopedic shoes. The opening of the center has become possible due to collaboration of Labor and Social Support Ministry and Belarusian Association of Doctors. Till the end of the year, they are going to issue a specialized manual with some recommendations on care taking of disabled children. Apart from that, the arrangement of educational seminars for personnel of boarding schools, hospitals and policlinics were planned.

A chemical attack

51(1333) 09.04.2003 The representatives of “Green Alliance” coalition of Belarusian Ecological NGOs are going to promulgate the results of independent investigations of the Zapadnaya Dvina basin and its tributaries in Novopolotsk region. The alternative monitoring started in November last year, the results are not consoling: concentration of oil industry outputs in the river is somewhere higher of a permissable norm in 3-12 times. The water analysis shows also a high concentration of sulfates and different organic compounds. The consequences of such pollution have already affected the local population.

52(1334) 10.04.03 A new civil initiative «Reyestr» (Register) appeared in Belarus. Its mission is to gain state support for small-numbered organizations through making changes in the Law of the Republic of Belarus «On State Support of Youth and Children Non-Governmental Organizations in the Republic of Belarus». The following non-governmental organizations are the members of the initiative: Historyka, Next Sop-New Life, New Faces, New Group, Different-Equal, Belarusian Association of Architecture Students, Rada and The World Association of Belarusians "Batskaushchyna".

Heirs of the Earth

62(1344) 29.04.03 The winners rewarding ceremony of the Third International Schoolchildren’s Festival “The Day of the Earth. Belarus-2003” took place in Minsk on the 25-27 of April. Over 6 thousands of children’s works from Belarus, Russia and Lithuania were presented at the festival. 120 schoolchildren became winners in 7 nominations. The festival was organised by Ministry of Education, Ministry of Nature Resources and Environmental Protection together with NGO "Belarusian Green Cross".
