Study visit project: “Bukovina – a land of cultural diversity”

European Commission, “Youth Programme”, Action 5, Activity 4

Chernivtsi, Bukovina, Ukraine 7th – 12th November 2005

Project summary:

The study visit is a meeting of youth workers from European Union (EU) and Eastern Europe Countries (EEC). Project’s aim is to present Bukovinian (and widely  Ukrainian) youth workers, their methods and regional youth policy. The meeting should serve all participants to share experiences, contacts and to learn about local youth organizations.

The study visit will take place in cultural rich region, where Ukrainians, Romanians, Jews, Germans and Poles lived together for centuries. We would like to present Bukovinian diversity, as well as local youth associations, to the other European youth organizations.

Place and time:

The project will take place in Chernivtsi, North Bukovina Region in Ukraine between 7th  12th November 2005.

You can find more information about the meeting in the programme below.

Language:

EVERY participant should be capable to work in English. To strengthen the language abilities of participants and interaction with the local community we will provide some translation.

Participants and trainers:

We would like to invite experienced workers, leaders and trainers from European youth organizations. Participating youth associations SHOULD be interested in creating new partnerships and projects in the frames of “Youth Programme” (http://europa.eu.int/comm/youth/program/index_en.html) especially aiming at cooperation with Eastern Europe Countries.

There should be 2 participants per organization. Countries involved in the project are: Belarus, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Moldova, Poland, Russia and Ukraine. 16 persons all together.

Among support stuff there is one fluent English-Ukrainian-Russian translator, two trainers and one support person. 4 additional persons.

Founding path:

The project will be financed by European Commission in the frames of “Youth Programme”, Action 5: Support Measures, Activity 4: Study Visit.

Participants have to cover their travel and visas expenses. We will refinance 70% of travel costs and 100% of visas costs on the base of travel tickets (the price must be clearly indicated) or invoices when the European Commission will send us all project grant (it can be even 6 months after the project!).

The accommodation, food and local transportation will be free. We will also provide medical insurance for a period of your stay in Ukraine.

In the early autumn we will send more information concerning travel to Chernivtsi and conditions of accommodation during the project. We will also inform you then, how can you prepare for the meeting and what should you bring along.

Project’s objectives:

The study visit will help to exchange the knowledge and experiences in youth work between experienced youth workers of participating organizations. The project should influence especially organizations from Bukovina region, for which this project is devoted. Secondly it ought to help to develop the work of youth organizations from Eastern Europe region, as partners with fewer opportunities. For European Union associations the meeting will help to increase the quality of their work on the base of EEC practice in youth sphere. All participants should benefit from the study visit by establishing new partnerships.

The meeting will create a market of good practices, not only on the tables during the exercises, but particularly in the minds of participants. We believe it will give extra input for future partnerships and cooperation between organizations and their “Youth Programme” projects. The tools for this aim will be experiencing Bukovinian cultural diversity, visiting local organizations, “get to know” exercises and intercultural party.

We would like to share different approaches and views, originating from our societies, on the work in cultural diversity areas. The main topic of the study visit should influence our meeting in both ways. We would like to present a Bukovinian experiences and possibilities in intercultural cooperation for participating organizations. We would like to learn from the knowledge of invited associations about their work in cultural diversity regions. The project will particularly present “Ukrainian reality” of the young Bukovinians, their needs and ways to solve problems. Participants’ intercultural experience gained during the study visit will improve the quality of their work and future youth projects.

We will share our know-how by many meetings with regional youth and ethnic associations, by creating a simulation game devoted to methodology of youth work in multicultural areas, and finally by the panel discussion with representatives of local authorities responsible for youth policy. The party after the meeting should strengthen the flow of practical experiences and theoretical approaches on youth policy in our states.

“Bukovina – a land of cultural diversity” will promote both “Youth Programme” among Eastern European organizations and the idea of cooperation with Partner Countries among EU associations. We devote for this aim a presentation of both, the organizations previously involved in the “Youth Programme” projects and the “Programme” itself.

We will meet also to enhance the development of our civil societies and to create a mutual understanding in our views on European identity. Working together will give us the possibility to exchange those deep feelings and, sometimes very different, opinions.

The study visit effects:

The study visit should help to recognize whole Eastern Europe Region for the EU participating associations (their partners and partners of their partners…). Situated in the heart of Europe, this region is very un-privileged on the youth work map. The youth workers and their communities are main beneficiaries from the meeting. We would like to develop especially Bukovinian potential both in youth and intercultural education.

To disseminate the results of our meeting, to present the possibilities of the cooperation with the EEC, to promote the “Youth Programme” and our good-practices, to share the outcomes from our meeting, finally to present a Bukovinian cultural diversity, we plan to publish a meeting report in the internet on the all-European web-sites devoted to youth work (salto newsletter, eurodesk etc.). We also would like to print a booklet. It should be both in English and Russian languages, colourful publication containing about 35 pages presenting the above information and the internet resources (links to web-pages).

The booklet, together with our study visit’s experiences, will impact the local communities where we live and work. Many of the participating organizations come from, or work in, cultural diversity areas; the knowledge gained on the study visit will improve their everyday work.
