Seminar “Act locally! Youth participation on a local level in European perspective” (9-13 March )

INFORMATION FOR PARTICIPANTS

Active participation of young people in society is crucial for education of responsible citizens influencing the condition of their own lives. Such attitude enables young people a real influence on matters and procedure affecting them and makes possibility for self-development. Researches indicate that half of the young people in Europe do not belong to any organization or association and this number is much higher in some countries, e.g. Poland.

Therefore, to get new ideas and impetus to our activities, we would like to exchange knowledge and experience with different organizations in Europe on involving young people in society on a local level.

Objectives:

–        to share knowledge about the situation of young people in different countries,

–        to exchange experiences and to learn how others make a change (methodology of work with young people used in different organizations),

–        networking of local participation projects on trans-national level.

Outline programme:

During the seminar representatives of different organizations will share their knowledge and experience on the issue of young people’s involvement in small communities.

Issues that we propose do discuss: actual youth situation in different European countries, organization’s presentations and their work, examples of “good practice”, “responsible” citizenship and active participation in society of young people (what is that and why to promote it), youth associations (NGOs, non-formal groups), young leader’s education etc.

We would like to base activities during the seminar on participatory learning methods.

Additionally to the program there will also be intercultural evening and country presentations during the seminar as well as chance to learn more about Polish history, tradition and culture while visiting the old town of Gdansk.

Project is financed from European Commission’s YOUTH Programme.
