Central European and Eurasian Law Initiative (CEELI) announces Professional Fellowship Vacancy
The Central European and Eurasian Law Initiative (CEELI) is a public service project of the American Bar Association (ABA)
designed to advance the rule of law by supporting the law reform process underway in Central and Eastern Europe and the New
Independent States of the former Soviet Union.
Each year CEELI offers a limited number of professional fellowships to legal practitioners, analysts, and scholars through its CEELI Fellows program, which is housed in CEELI's Office of Rule of Law Research.
The Fellows program is designed with two goals in mind: 1) To strengthen CEELI's capacity to develop research and analytical
publications that complement the programmatic efforts of the organization's network of approximately thirty field offices; and
2) To provide legal professionals early in their career and from around the world with practical experience and insight into the
field of technical legal assistance.
Fellows work entirely in CEELI's Washington, D.C. office as part of the Office of Rule of Law Research. They are fully integrated
into CEELI's day-to-day operations in Washington DC, and are relied upon to conduct in-depth legal research and provide
analysis of issues related to the rule of law and legal reform in emerging democracies and transitioning states. Please note that
this is a professional fellowship. Accordingly, opportunities for independent research are limited.
The Fellows program has an immediate vacancy for a short-term position ending August 31st, 2004, with the option to reapply for
the 2004-2005 Fellowship term. The Fellow will be hired as an ABA employee with a prorated annual salary of approximately $35,000.
ABA benefits include paid vacation and administrative leave, Federal holidays, and medical, dental, and vision care insurance.
Foreign applicants are responsible for obtaining authorization to work in the United States.
Directed Research
CEELI Fellows provide analytical and research support to two of CEELI's six Focal Areas. The applicable Focal Areas for this

* Providing research support in the design and development of technical assistance tools;
* Authoring comprehensive reports providing descriptive overviews of a particular country's legal and judicial system; and
* Developing educational modules, presentation materials, and informational resources.
Eligibility and Selection Criteria CEELI welcomes applications from candidates of all countries. Competition for Fellow positions is merit-based and selection
