It is obvious that NGOs activity in Gomel and Mogilyov regions (the regions, suffered enormously from the Chernobyl catastrophe) is aimed at the liquidation of its consequences. The diagram of distribution of NGOs by some fields of activity (see below) illustrates percentage of NGOs in different regions, fields of activity of which are mostly connected with liquidation of the Chernobyl consequences. 13,60% and 6,25% of Gomel and Mogilyov regions NGOs characterize themselves as Chernobyl organizations, this percentage is higher than that in other regions.
4,23% of Gomel and Grodno NGOs are environmental organizations. A number of such organizations in Mogilyov region is lower (only 2,60%). The question arises: “Are Mogilyov and Mogilyov region NGOs facing the environmental problems serious enough?” One can argue, that not a number of organizations but their effectiveness is important for us. But not always quantity gains quality. National and International NGOs, registered in other cities (neither in Mogilyov nor in Mogilyov region) can help in this direction (field of activity), but the citizens of Mogilyov themselves should do something!
One of the factors of a growing number of organizations, dealing with the problems of handicapped and disabled people (9,37% in Gomel region and 8,85% in Mogilyov region) is a growing quantity of citizens of this category. But we should say that the highest percentage of such organization belongs to Minsk region (9,52% from a number of region NGOs). A number of such organizations is higher than that of Chernobyl organizations, which can be explained by a higher level of activity of handicapped people in every region of Belarus. NGOs, dealing with health care in Gomel region is 4,53%, those in Mogilyov region — 4,69%, which is not higher of the level of NGOs of this field of activity in other regions. This can be explained by a firm belarusian tradition in this sphere, within the frames of which health care and medicine are state or commercial structures’ priorities.
According to the diagrams (see below) we can make a conclusion that social work and rehabilitation are the most widespread fields of activity of Belararusian NGOs (Gomel region — 23,57%, Mogilyov region — 24,48%, Minsk – 24, 78%), this phenomenon can be explained by a great number of different aspects of the activity (moral support, emotional influence, medical help, legal consultations and so on), which are vividly illustrated by different actions and arrangements, held by NGOs.
