The question regarding the size of NGO membership in Belarus for 2002 up to July 2003, drew 115 responses. INGO membership varies greatly: from 10 to 14650 members.

The mean value of International NGOs membership was exactly 55. If arranged in order greatness, half of the received values indicated by those answering the question would be situated above and half below the membership size value of 50 (median value).

The upper and lower quartiles of the received values were also measured — i.e. the values dividing the quantity of received values into 4 observation groups each containing equal quantities of received values. The value of the upper quartile (above which 25% of the received values are situated) for International NGOs is exactly 18. The value of the lower quartile (above which 75% of the received values are situated) is exactly 63.

The median values of the upper and lower quartiles allow us to divide NGOs into groups according their membership size.

It is possible to isolate the following groups of International NGOs according to size of their staff membership:

1. 13-18 people – a small group.

2. 19-50 people.

3. 51-200 people.

4. more than 200 people.

Republican NGO membership varies from 50  to 14650 members.

The mean value of Republican NGOs membership was exactly 311. If arranged in order greatness, half of the received values indicated by those answering the question would be situated above and half below the membership size value of 311.

The upper and lower quartiles of the received values were also measured — i.e. the values dividing the quantity of received values into 4 observation groups each containing equal quantities of received values. The value of the upper quartile (above which 25% of the received values are situated) for Republican NGOs is exactly 84. The value of the lower quartile (above which 75% of the received values are situated) is exactly 866.

The median values of the upper and lower quartiles allow us to divide NGOs into groups according their membership size.

It is possible to isolate the following groups of Republican NGOs according to size of their staff membership:

1. 50-84 people – a small group.

2. 85-311 people.

3. 312-866 people.

4. more than 866 people.

Local NGO membership varies from 10  to 1447 members.

The mean value of Local NGOs membership was exactly 42. If arranged in order greatness, half of the received values indicated by those answering the question would be situated above and half below the membership size value of 42.

The upper and lower quartiles of the received values were also measured — i.e. the values dividing the quantity of received values into 4 observation groups each containing equal quantities of received values. The value of the upper quartile (above which 25% of the received values are situated) for Local NGOs is exactly 18. The value of the lower quartile (above which 75% of the received values are situated) is exactly 76.

The median values of the upper and lower quartiles allow us to divide NGOs into groups according their membership size.

It is possible to isolate the following groups of Local NGOs according to size of their staff membership:

1. 10-18 people – a small group.

2. 19-42 people.

3.  43-76 people.

4. more than 76 people.
