Russia to double AIDS spending in 2007 Russiaplans to double its support for fighting HIV/AIDS in 2007, to $289 million, in response to President Vladimir Putin’s call for a greater commitment against the disease as part of the country’s national health project. The increased funds are to be distributed to create new AIDS clinics across the country of which there are currently more than 100 outside Moscow and on upgrading existing ones, said Vladimir Fridlyanov, deputy education and science minister.
