Climate Change Declaration an NGO framework for action
By Vicente García-Delgado, CIVICUS' UN Representative based in New York
During the closing session of the DPI/NGO 60th Annual Conference at UN Headquarters in New York last Friday 7 September, representatives of more than 500 NGOs from over 80 countries unanimously adopted a Declaration on Climate Change Threats, committing themselves to an “NGO Framework for Action” calculated to “propose NGO solutions to these [climate change] threats before they become irreversible.” Resounding applause marking the approval of the Declaration gave expression to a collective will by the NGO community represented at the Conference to “unify behind a common vision of collaboration.”
