Dear users, in this section we present a wide range of the actual news about actvities of Belarusian National, International and Regional NGOs.

A new joint project of the European Union (EU) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) “Enhancing the System of Immigration Control at the State Border of the Republic of Belarus” (BOMBEL-2) will be launched in Belarus in September.

The new project shall carry on the activities of its predecessor – the EU/UNDP programme “Enhancing Border Management in the Republic of Belarus” (BOMBEL-1), which has been implemented since May 2005. The BOMBEL-1 has resulted in organization of a number of training workshops for Belarusian Border Guards; reconstruction and fitting of the Smorgon Border Guards dogs training center with up-to-date equipment and facilities; delivering of various border, radiation control and communication technology and facilities.

“UNDP in Belarus has a rich experience of implementation of programmes of this kind. It has gained a reputation of an organization, which has skilled personnel and own resources for efficient realization of the project,” the Head of the Border Guards Committee of Belarus, Alexander Pavlovsky noted.

The new programme is aimed at enhancing the potential of the Belarusian Border Guards in the field of migration flow management, border control, guarding the “green” zone, and raising the Border Guards’ mobility.

The programme will include, among other activities, studying the European positive border guard experience for effective application of the EU standards in the sphere of counteracting illicit trafficking in vehicles, weapons, explosives, drugs, persons, fighting terrorism as well as carrying out efficient immigration control.

The programme envisages completing the automation and technical re-equipment of the checking points and Border Guards units. In particular, road, railway and simplified checking points shall be automated, seven mobile outposts shall be created, and three acting outposts shall be equipped. Construction of European-level facilities in Pinsk for temporary keeping of illegal migrants, persons with unidentified documents and refugees is also on the agenda.

The BOMBEL-2 programme is to be implemented within 16 months.
