Alexander Voitovich elected a Chairman of Law Initiative, the Republican NGO
Alexander Voitovich, the leader of Cooperation and Progress international social movement, was elected a chairman of Law Initiative, the Republican Non-Governmental Organization. His election was effected at the regular conference of this NGO held to hear reports and elect new officials.
According to A. Voitovich, a proposal to place himself at the head of Law Initiative was unexpected. He mentioned the following among the main lines of activities: legal enlightenment of the population, in particular through special school; development of cooperation with the Belarusian and international NGOs. Another line of activities is going to be comparative jurisprudence, i.e. comparison of the Belaruian laws with the worldwide practice and the international treaties, expecially those to which Belarus is a party. Today Law Initiative has over 100 member, most of them are the layers. It has its branches in all regions of this country, except for Vitebsk. So, according to Voitovich, geographical expansion of this NGO is also its purpose. A. Voitovich is an ex-president of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly, 2nd conv. During presidential election-2006 he was a nominee to the post of the president, though later he withdrew.
