Project in Polack - successes and plans

How one of the major projects of “‘Covenant of Mayors Demonstration Projects’” is being implemented? Let’s talk about news and plans.

PubLiCity - a large project aimed at modernization of Polack’s municipal lighting system - is now at the stage of equipment purchasing. Lighting system is going to be modernized on 16 streets; therefore development of design estimate documentation took a lot of time and resources. New lamps will appear on almost all streets in city centre as well as on major highways. In the end of September 2017, design estimate documentation for public lighting successfully passed government assessment. Tender dossier for equipment purchasing is being prepared at the moment. Equipment includes such items as LED street lamps, light poles, switchboards, stand-alone street lamps, insulated wire, etc. It is planned to announce international tender in the beginning of November.

By the end of December 2017, design estimate documentation for decorative illumination will be ready. Illumination will be installed on 43 objects, such as administrative buildings, schools and universities, monuments and memorials, and a city bridge.

Besides that, project team is actively working on promotion of the ideas of energy efficiency and energy efficient lifestyle among the inhabitants of Polack and Navapolack. In the end of October 2017, we launched an online contest called “We commit to the Covenant of Mayors” in the project’s group in social network VK. People are sharing their ways to reduce their influence on climate to win energy efficient prizes.

Energy Days took place in Polack in May - June 2017. It was a city festival dedicated to energy saving and timed to the EU Sustainable Energy Week. This September project team began preparation for Energy Days next year. It will take place in a new format of Festival of Light. Such festivals are regularly held in large cities like Lyon, Amsterdam, Berlin.

A lot of interesting activities are going to take place: 3D mapping projections, night city tours, creative light installations, master classes on night photo-shooting and on how to create LED street lamps, etc. Project team represented by members of Polotsk District Executive Committee and Interakcia Foundation is creating organizing committee for the Festival of Light and working on its concept and agenda. This December members of organizing committee will attend Festival of Light in Lyon to gain experience for the event in Polack.
