Defence of consumers’ rights hangs in the air

The Consumers’ rights defence NGOs will not be permitted to inspect compliance with the legislation on defence of consumers’ rights. 

Since 11 August 2012, the non-governmental organizations involved in defence of consumers’ rights will have to deal with their clients for free, and have their expenses covered after the fault of the business entity is proven. 

The Consumers’ rights defence organizations will not be permitted to inspect compliance with the legislation on defence of consumers’ rights. Amendments in the Law of the Republic of Belarus “On Defence of Consumers’ Rights”, to come into effect on 11 August 2012, will formalize the provisions of Edict of the President of the Republic of Belarus No. 510 dated 16 October 2009 “On Improvement of Control (Supervisory) Activity in the Republic of Belarus”. According to this Edict, public control in the form of inspections may be carried out only by trade unions.
