CSO Meter presentation: Assessing the civil society environment and UPR report

The Assembly of Pro-Democratic NGOs and the Legal Transformation Center Lawtrend cordially invite You on November 28 to the presentation of the CSO Meter report and the Report on freedom of association and environment for CSOs in Belarus, submitted to the UN Human Rights Council under the 3rd cycle of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) for Belarus.

This CSO Meter report has been prepared in the frame of the consortium headed by European Center for Not-for-Profit Law (ECNL). The report on Belarus is a part of the regional review, which studies legal environment and practice for CSO activity in 6 Eastern Partnership countries. Country reports and regional comparative report will also be presented in Brussels December 3 on the eve of the next Annual Assembly of the EaP Civil Society Forum.

The CSO Meter is a review of the key indicators of law and practices determining conditions for CSOs, including: freedom of association, equal treatment, access to funding, freedom of peaceful assembly, right to participation in decision-making, freedom of expression, right to privacy, state duty to protect,  state support and state-CSO cooperation.

Our event will aim to:
·     Present the main findings of the CSO Meter country and UPR report recommendations;
·     Discuss priorities and next steps on how to improve the environment for CSOs in Belarus;
·     Discuss the role states and other stakeholders can have to support a more enabling environment for CSOs.

We have invited leadership and experts from CSO sector, state agencies, whose activity to the greatest extent influences conditions for CSOs, as well as diplomats of the countries that addressed recommendations to Belarus within the previous 2nd UPR cycle for Belarus in 2015.
